I suspect instead that the sundered world of FFXIV is kind of a nexus. This does not preclude there being a Noctis or an Iroha in one of the shards (Tenzen from FFXI also existed as a Warrior of Light in the distant past on the Source) or even places such as Bastok or Alexandria, but these are not necessarily the same places as their original games. Lightning, Shantotto, Noctis and Iroha all came from different worlds (And a miqo'te from Eorzea crossed over into Noctis' world) which are not part of the 14 shards. Yet, through crossovers we also know these worlds exist separately as well. Shantotto from Final Fantasy XI existed once as Shatotto, the mother of modern Black Magic. Hien's father, Lord Kien, is strongly implied to be Cyan from Final Fantasy 6. People from the other games show up as well. Eden from Final Fantasy 8 exists as the source of all Sin Eaters. The First has the dwarves of Final Fantasy IV (complete with tanks thanks to us), as well as something very like the dream Zanarkand. I suspect each of the shards is also a melting pot. Yet at the same time, Ivalice is literally a place in the source, complete with the story of Final Fantasy Tactics existing as a stage play (Which is not entirely accurate to the actual events). But we also have strong Final Fantasy 6 connections with the Magitek Empire and Doma. The Source, for instance, clearly has Final Fantasy 3 connections with the Crystal Tower. So what I'm saying is, your thought might be much more likely than you think!įinal Fantasy XIV has always been a melting pot. If you've played lightning returns, you know that's the only final fantasy game where the world actually gets destroyed, and it's by lightnings hand. The interesting part relating to this post is that Igeyorhm caused the destruction of the 13th shard. Most notably, it appears that the warriors who aid him in SoS are the party from FFIV, and he obviously takes the appearance of the wol from FF1.
Additionally, warriors of light from other FF games get summoned by elidibus in heroes gauntlet and seat of sacrifice. In the first, mount Gulg exists still from FF1, and the original warrior of light is in their history, but most of the world from FF1 has been long destroyed by the flood of light. There's pretty strong implications that the other shards are the worlds of other final fantasy s why there's 13 shards besides the source. don't read the rest of my comment if you aren't caught up.
